End-Cap Lockers for Open-Plan Offices

End-cap lockers are freestanding locker islands placed at the end of workstation rows — the most space-efficient way to add storage to an open-plan floor without a dedicated locker room. Modern Office Systems designs, specifies, and installs end-cap locker programs for offices across New York City and the Northeast.

The Hybrid Office's Most Space-Efficient Storage Solution

End-cap islands didn't exist as a product category 15 years ago. They emerged directly from the open-plan office trend — a purpose-built answer to a specific problem: where does storage go when there's no separate room for it?

0

Extra Square Footage Required

End-caps occupy dead space at row ends that was already reserved as circulation clearance. Storage added without reconfiguring the floor plan.

54"

Below Sightline — Open Feel Preserved

Counter-height units sit below the average standing eye line, keeping the floor visually open. No warehouse aesthetic — no sightline disruption.

Storage From Double-Sided Islands

A zone-divider configuration provides locker access from both sides — serving two rows with a single island footprint.

Day-use

Built for Hybrid Day-Use Programs

PIN or RFID locks support unassigned day-use programs. Employees pick any open locker each morning — no keys, no assignment lists.

Standard End-Cap Locker Configurations

All dimensions are nominal and can be adjusted to fit your row width and ceiling height. Custom sizes are standard practice — not an upcharge.

End-cap lockers sit at eye level on the office floor — which means finish quality matters. Every unit we specify is available in over 200 laminate options, from architectural woodgrains to solid corporate colors to high-gloss white. Edges are banded to match the face, hardware is selected to complement the building's interior metalwork standard, and lock types are specified to your access control program.

Mail slot tops, charging shelves, and custom graphics are all addable at the specification stage. We bring material samples to your site visit so your design team can make selections against the actual floor finish and furniture palette.

End-Cap Lockers — Common Questions

What is an end-cap locker?
An end-cap locker is a freestanding locker unit placed at the end of a workstation row or benching run in an open-plan office. Rather than requiring a separate locker room, end-cap islands integrate storage directly into the floor plan — typically at counter height (48–54 inches) so they don't obstruct sightlines across the office.
What height are end-cap lockers?
End-cap lockers are available in two primary height ranges: counter height (48–54 inches), which sits below the sightline and preserves an open feel; and full height (72–84 inches), which maximizes storage per unit footprint. Counter-height is by far the most common choice for open-plan hybrid offices.
How many lockers fit in an end-cap island?
A standard end-cap island is 2–4 columns wide. Each column holds 2–4 locker compartments depending on height. A typical 3-column counter-height end-cap with 3-tier lockers provides 9 locker compartments in a footprint of roughly 42 inches wide by 15 inches deep.
Can end-cap lockers be double-sided?
Yes. Double-sided end-cap islands (also called zone divider lockers) provide locker access from both faces — one side for Row A, the other for Row B. This doubles the storage output per footprint and creates a visual partition between workstation zones.
What lock types work best for end-cap lockers in hybrid offices?
For hybrid day-use programs, 4-digit PIN combination locks are the most common choice — no key management, self-service reset, and no assignment needed. RFID/fob locks integrate with building access systems for a seamless user experience. Keyed locks are still used for assigned programs where employees have a permanent locker.
What is the lead time for end-cap lockers?
Most end-cap locker projects ship in 8–10 weeks from approved drawings: 2–3 weeks for design and approval, 4–5 weeks production, and 1–2 days on-site installation. Rush programs may be available depending on finish and quantity.
